Preview
Real Madrid have the advantage on Tuesday when they host Bayern Munich with a valuable 2-1 lead.
Ronaldo’s brace put Madrid ahead in the first leg in Munich, but Bayern were not in their best form. Robert Lewandowski was absent, Arturo Vidal missed a penalty, and Javi Martinez seeing a red card killed any chance of Bayern heading into Tuesday with a lead.
Lewandowski is back in action, but Bayern are still short-handed for the return leg. Martinez is suspended, and both Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng will need to fight through injury to play. Madrid have their own injuries at the back, as center backs Varane and Pepe are still out of action.
Adding to the injury list for Madrid is Gareth Bale. The Welsh superstar has a calf injury that will keep him sidelined, but he could be ready to return for Sunday’s Clasico.
Bayern haven’t beaten Madrid at the Bernabeu since 2001, and will need to be aggressive to have a shot at reaching the semifinals. Real Madrid are aiming to reach a seventh consecutive Champions League semifinal, and have scored at least one goal at home in 34 straight Champions League home games.
