With WrestleMania 33 just hours away, many fans are already looking ahead to next year’s event, either to plan their trip or just to speculate about where the WWE is taking some of its biggest storylines. So what do we know so far about WrestleMania 34?
WrestleMania 34 will be taking place at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. This is the same arena where WrestleMania 30 was held back in 2014, and the stadium holds about 75,000 people.
The massive professional wrestling event will be held on April 8th, 2018.
So what has been rumored thus far for WrestleMania 34? It’s obviously still way too early to say anything for sure, but the current rumor is that the event will feature Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns going up against one another in the main event.
The idea here is that Roman Reigns will defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33 this weekend. Then, Roman and Brock will be the only two people who have beaten The Undertaker at WrestleMania, and that will be a key aspect of the way their brawl is promoted.
Of course, we already saw Roman Reigns fight Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania just a few years ago. However, we never really found out who would have won that match if it continued as normal, as that was the year that Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract, pinning Roman Reigns to win the title.
The current plan is also reportedly for this to be a Universal Championship match. It’s unclear if that means that Brock Lesnar will win the title this weekend and then hold it for a full year; it’s also possible that Goldberg will win and then Brock Lesnar will earn the championship at a later date, as Goldberg has recently expressed openness to staying in the WWE for a bit longer.
Finally, if all of this actually pans out, it seems that WrestleMania 34 would be a massive coronation for Roman Reigns.
“The plan is to once again build for a year and have the big coronation at WrestleMania,” according to the Wrestling Observer via Reddit. “The idea between now and then is for Reigns to be the face, not just when he wins the title, but to fully replace John Cena as the lead babyface of the company.”
There is also some speculation that WrestleMania 34, not WrestleMania 33, will be The Undertaker’s final match, as he would be able to end his career in the same place where the streak was ended in 2014.
