At WrestleMania 33 on Sunday, Brock Lesnar defeated Goldberg and became the new WWE Universal Champion. So what’s next for Lesnar? Who will his next feud be with?
Long term, it seems that we should expect a feud between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently reported that this is expected to be the main event of WrestleMania 34, which takes place in April 2018.
Meltzer also said that the current plan is for Brock Lesnar to lose to Roman Reigns. In fact, he said that the plan with Brock Lesnar for years has been to have him be built up as a total, unstoppable beast, only for him to lose to Roman Reigns.
“The plan is to once again build for a year and have the big coronation at WrestleMania,” according to the Wrestling Observer via Reddit. “The idea between now and then is for Reigns to be the face, not just when he wins the title, but to fully replace John Cena as the lead babyface of the company.”
But that’s for WrestleMania 34, which doesn’t happen for another year. So what about for right now? What will happen with Brock Lesnar and the Universal Championship title in the immediate future?
One distinct possibility is that Lesnar will feud with Finn Balor. After all, Balor was cleared for in-ring action several weeks ago, but he has not been seen on WWE programming since that time. It seems that the company may be saving Balor’s return for the Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania, and if that’s the case, it would certainly make sense for Balor to immediately go after the title that he won in August 2016 and had to vacate due to injury.
We’ll get a better idea of the company’s plans with Lesnar going forward when Monday Night Raw airs on April 3rd on the USA Network.
