After Cristiano Ronaldo posted a hat trick in last week’s first leg, Atletico Madrid have all the work to do in Wednesday’s return leg.
Atletico are a defensive side, but all their flaws were on display at the Bernabeu. Injuries at the back left them vulnerable to Ronaldo magic, and Atleti registered just one shot on goal. Ronaldo now has 103 Champions League goals, three more than Atletico have ever scored in the competition.
Juanfran is back for Atletico, but it is likely too little too late. No club has ever erased a 3-0 deficit at this stage in the competition, and Atletico has only scored that many goals once in a home knockout match.
Estadio Vincente Calderon will be rocking for another Madrid derby, but it won’t just be the end of Atletico’s season. Rojiblancos are moving next summer, making this the last European fixture at the 56-year old venue.
