After months of being overlooked, Always Dreaming enters the Preakness as a heavy favorite in the odds. Derby horses Classic Empire and Lookin at Lee join Always Dreaming at the top of the odds.
Always Dreaming initially entered the Derby a few horses down in the odds but emerged as the late favorite on race day. The horse burst onto the scene after winning the Florida Derby despite not being the favorite.
Leading up to the Derby, there was some skepticism over his talent, but as the Preakness odds demonstrate people are starting to come around to Always Dreaming’s potential. Always Dreaming has the most consistency speed when it comes to anyone in the Preakness field.
According to Twin Spires, Always Dreaming had a BRIS Speed Rating of 100 at the Kentucky Derby and 102 at the Florida Derby. While other horses have scored over 100 in one race, Always Dreaming is the only one in the field coming off two straight races with 100 or higher BRIS numbers.
Conquest Mo Money is a sleeper to keep an eye on. The horse has gotten faster in each of his last three races. He also sat out the Kentucky Derby to prepare for the Preakness. Conquest Mo Money narrowly lost the Arkansas Derby at the end as Classic Empire won by a nose.
Another horse to watch is Multiplier. The horse has not faced the kind of competition of the race favorites. At the Illinois Derby, Multiplier recorded the fastest BRIS Speed number (104) of any horse in the Preakness. His BRIS has gone up in each of his last three races.
While Classic Empire is one of the favorites, the horse left the Kentucky Derby banged up with a swollen eye. With just two weeks between races, it hard to imagine the horse will be able to perform at a peak level.
