A busy Saturday in the boxing world concludes inside Madison Square Garden, where undefeated Terence Crawford (30-0, 21 KO’s) puts his WBO and WBC 140-pound titles on the line against 2008 Olympic gold medalist Felix Diaz (19-1, 9 KO’s).
Entering his ninth consecutive world title fight, “Bud” is regarded as a monster favorite, but Diaz believes his style could make him a problem.
“Obviously, he is the champion and he is the best, but I feel I have the experience to beat Terence Crawford,” said the 33-year-old. “Terence hasn’t really fought anyone that would give him problems stylistically, so I feel that I can cause problems for him.”
Ultimately, though, Crawford has sliced his way through the division with aplomb, and Diaz isn’t likely to give him much more trouble than any of his previous opponents. Nevertheless, it’s a world title fight, it’s the next step for a 29-year-old star quickly climbing the pound-for-pound rankings, and it’s a good chance to see one of the best in the sport.
