WATCH: Tim Tebow Robs Home Run

Tim Tebow made a spectacular play at the wall in Friday night’s game for High-A St. Lucie.

Tebow is already off to a great start with St. Lucie since being promoted earlier in the week. He hit a home run on his first day on Wednesday. Tebow’s home run was in the second game of a doubleheader. Tebow picked up three hits between the two games, going 3-for-5 with a homer, two RBIs and a walk.

Tebow’s first home run with the Mets came on a 92 mile per hour pitch from Palm Beach’s Junior Fernandez, which Tebow hit to the left of the batter’s eye in centerfield.

Tebow also collected two hits in his third game with the Mets, going 2-for-4 with walk. Through his first three games, Tebow is batting .556 with a .636 OBP and a 1.525 OPS.

Many were critical of Tebow’s promotion from Low-A Columbia due to his somewhat unimpressive stats. Tebow batted .220 with a .311 OBP, 3 home runs, 23 RBIs and a .648 OPS in 214 at-bats for Columbia.

“I think we’re pleased with [Tebow’s] first half of the season,” said Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson. “It’s not like he’s tearing up the league, but at the same time all indications are positive in terms of various things we look at, in terms of chase rates, exit velocity. His last two or three weeks trended pretty well and given all the circumstances, age and so forth, we felt this was the right time to promote him.”

Tebow decided to return to baseball, which he hasn’t played competitively since high school, back in September when he reported to the Mets’ instructional league before he played in the Arizona Fall League. He played in this year’s spring training for the Mets and batted .148, before being sent to Low-A Columbia.
