Jordan Spieth hit a miraculous bunker-shot for a birdie on hole 18 in the final-round of the Travelers Championship. The birdie gave Speith the victory on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff after Daniel Berger narrowly missed a long 50-foot putt.
Spieth’s win at the Travelers makes him the second youngest to 10 wins on the PGA Tour. Spieth and Tiger Woods are the only two players in the modern era to reach 10 wins before turning 24-years-old. Woods had 25 victories before turning 24.
“For the bunker shot to go in, that was awesome. I don’t know if I’ll ever have a moment like that again,” said Spieth.
Spieth was understandably fired-up after the shot and threw his club in celebration after his incredible hole-out, while his caddy, Michael Greller, launched the bunker rake he was holding.
Golfer Justin Thomas called the shot on twitter moments earlier.
Spieth hit a similar shot to hole-out at the John Deere Classic in 2013. Spieth’s shot at the Classic forced a playoff, which Spieth won at age 19 to become the youngest golfer to win a Tour event in 82 years, according to CBS Sports.
Spieth shot an even-par 70 in the final-round and led the entire tournament, until Berger was able to catch him late. Berger birdied three of the final six holes and finished with a 67.
Berger won the FedEx St. Jude Classic two weeks ago for his second PGA Tour victory. He has four top-10 finishes this year, but missed the cut at last week’s U.S. Open. He now ranks 8th in the FedExCup standings.
Spieth’s win was his second of the year. He moves up to 4th in the FedExCup standings. He was the FedExCup champion in 2015.
Last week, Spieth finished tied for 35th-place and shot one over-par at the U.S. Open. He has six top-ten finishes in 2017.
