Cavaliers’ Kevin Love Responds to Kyrie Irving Trade Rumor

Things got a little bit crazier for the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday afternoon when it came out that PG Kyrie Irving reportedly requested a trade. As ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported, Irving is asking for the trade because he wants to go to a team “where he can be a more focal point and no longer wants to play alongside LeBron James.”

The internet essentially broke when this news came out, and rightfully so. Our own Chris Bucher broke down a few possible destinations should Irving be traded, and there’s been speculation coming from all different directions on the topic.

But, leave it to Cavaliers forward Kevin Love to make the entire situation even more intriguing, as he responded in a very interesting way to a tweet that was sent his way. When InsideHoops.com NBA asked how things were, he responded with the following:

The reason this is such an interesting tweet from Love is the fact that it comes on the heels of Sports Illustrated’s Chris Chavez reporting that Irving told SI’s Maggie Gray that the Cavaliers were “in a peculiar place” currently.

“Like I said, we’re in a peculiar place,” Irving said. “The best thing we can do is handle things with class and professionalism. Obviously we have a great owner that’s willing to spend a little money on guys that he believes in. At this point, we just see what happens throughout the summer.”

It’s hard to interpret exactly how Love meant that comment, but it didn’t come across in a great way. The Cavaliers certainly have an interesting situation on their hands, and with rumors swirling that James may have an interest in going to Los Angeles in 2018 free agency, it may only get even messier. It also doesn’t help that LeBron recently took a shot at owner Dan Gilbert amidst the team’s decision to part ways with general manager David Griffin.

For a team whose future originally looked incredibly bright, things are certainly looking bleak right about now, and there’s a very real chance they make look even worse once the 2017-18 NBA season officially begins.
