Preview

While World Nos. 1 and 2 Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic were either slowed (Murray) or stopped completely (Djokovic) by injury, the 35-year-old Federer continues to look as strong as ever. He has still yet to lose a set this tournament, and with the way he’s playing, even a perfect performance on the other side of the net may not be enough to stop him.

That’s bad news for Berdych, who makes his second straight trip to the Wimbledon semifinals after Djokovic was forced to retire with an injury. The 31-year-old hasn’t been nearly as dominant, as he needed four sets to get past Jeremy Chardy and Ryan Harrison, and five to up-end Dominic Thiem.

These two have met 24 times in their careers, with Federer holding an 18-6 advantage and a seven-match winning streak. That said, Berdych did beat Federer in the quarterfinals here in 2010, a time when Fed-Ex had won six of the previous seven tournaments at the All-England Club.

So yeah, anything is possible, but it would still be a massive surprise if Federer doesn’t advance to his 11th Wimbledon final. He owned the grass during the prime of his career, and he’s not looking all that different these days.
