Lahaina Civic Center is once again home to one of the most intriguing preseason college basketball tournaments this year, as the 2017 Maui Invitational features a handful of good teams and talented players.
The headliners are Wichita State and Notre Dame, who are both ranked inside the Top 15 and both have first-team All-American candidates in Landry Shamet and Bonzie Colson, but with teams like Michigan, VCU and Marquette also in the mix, there are a lot of high-quality programs.
“This year’s Maui Jim Maui Invitational title is up for grabs, no doubt about it,” said Tournament Chairman Dave Odom. “This field features a variety of NCAA and conference championship hopefuls and programs that are looking to make a name for themselves. We’ve seen it time and time again here, with North Carolina the most recent example; success in Maui often leads to success later in the season.”
