Fantasy Football Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em: Week 10 Predictions

Start: QB Philip Rivers at Raiders

Sit: QB Derek Carr vs. Chargers

There may be some skepticism over Rivers after his numbers were a bit down against the Seahawks. Rivers had just 228 yards and two touchdowns in a tough road matchup. There is no better cure to having a bounce-back fantasy outing than playing the Raiders. Despite his lower statistics, Rivers was excited to get a win in Seattle.

“I was fired up,” Rivers explained to Chargers.com. “I was fired up for many reasons. Some personal, some just excited. I love playing here, and this is probably my last shot playing here. It’s exciting when you play in this kind of atmosphere and this environment. I think it was exciting to come out and see how many Charger fans were here. I was fired up. You like going against great defenses, especially guys like Bobby Wagner, K.J. Wright; guys that you’ve seen multiple times (that) you respect from afar. It’s just fun.”

The Raiders rank in the bottom ten in passing yards allowed at 262 yards per game. When the Chargers played the Raiders earlier this season, Rivers threw for 339 yards and two touchdowns. The Raiders defense just gave up 262 yards and three touchdowns to Nick Mullens in his first career start. Imagine what Rivers can do against the same defense in Week 10.

The Raiders Continue to Be a Train Wreck

Carr has thrown zero touchdowns in two of his last three games. Since the Raiders traded away Amari Cooper, I have even less confidence in any Raiders players for fantasy football. Carr threw for just 171 yards against the 49ers, and you should stay away from him against the Chargers.

Despite the numerous rumors swirling around his future, Carr reaffirmed his commitment to the Raiders.

"Who really wants to turn this thing around?" Carr told NFL.com. "Who really wants to do the hard things that no one wants to do? It's easy to say, 'I'd rather do it somewhere else.' That's easy. I think we figure that out, and going forward we find out who's a Raider, honestly. I love this place, and I'm not going anywhere. So I'm in for the long haul, and I want to see the men step up and say, 'I want to do that too.'"

It is difficult to start any of the Raiders players right now in fantasy. Jon Gruden's future depends on his ability to nail the future draft picks he is stockpiling. Gruden believes things are eventually going to turn around.

"I see players after every game that want to be Raiders," Gruden explained to NFL.com. "That's been the case my entire life. I think the brand of the Raiders is an exciting one, and I think a lot of players do want to play for us in the future. The Oakland Raiders is a great organization. I know it's not looking pretty right now. I've heard a lot of negativity over the last six or seven months, and rightfully so. But we're going to build a championship football team here. I know a lot of people as players, as fans, just in general, want to be a part of this."
