The Kansas City Chiefs added Frank Clark to improve on their poor defense from last season. Clark is determined to make a difference on and off the field as a member of the Chiefs.
Clark is holding a back-to-school giveaway on Tuesday at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs have an off day on Tuesday, and Clark announced via Twitter that he will spend his day helping the less fortunate.
“Pull up on me tomorrow at Arrowhead stadium! Dedicating my off day to spend time with my Kansas Cirt family! See you there! ♥️”
Clark deleted his tweet shortly after because of the spelling error, but his message was clear. Clark will be giving away 300 backpacks full of school supplies to sixth grade students in Kansas City. The giveaway will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Chiefs acquired Clark in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. They quickly signed him to a five-year, $105.5 million extension. Clark has been a staple of Seattle’s defense for four seasons. He has 32 sacks over the last three years. Clark is a difference maker on defense, which is something that the Chiefs needed.
Clark knows what it is like to be the underdog. Giving back to the community is something that he is used to doing, and something he does well. Clark understands because of his up bringing.
Clark’s Long Road
Clark was drafted by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He played college ball at Michigan and become an immediate standout. Clark’s life prior to football was not an easy one.
Before taking down quarterbacks on an NFL field, Clark struggled on the streets of Los Angeles. He was brought up by a mother who struggled with drug addiction and an absentee father. There were many nights that Clark spent homeless on Los Angeles’ Skid Row. He was involved with gangs as a young child and this led to his bouncing around.
In November 2014, Clark was arrested and pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. There was an alleged disturbance in a hotel room in Ohio. Clark has gone from looking for money on the ground for a meal to signing a lucrative contract with one of the top teams in the NFL.
Because of his past, Clark has gained a passion for helping homeless children around the country. Clark admitted that the birth of his daughter made him want to turn his life around.
“It was life-changing, because it’s your daughter, and as a man and you grow up without a father figure to a certain extent, and you grew up and you’re not taught how to treat a woman,” Clark said during a 2016 interview with Q13 FOX in Seattle. “Then you have a daughter and it’s like automatically overnight you’re forced to change if you want to be a great father.”
Now in Kansas City, Clark has wasted no time in giving back to his new home. On the field, Clark will be a big piece in turning the Chiefs’ defense into a powerhouse to match their offense.
