Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes found rookie wide receiver Mecole Hardman for an incredible 48-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter against the New England Patriots.

On a second and 25 from just over midfield, the reigning league MVP tossed a dime to Hardman to put his side ahead the Super Bowl champions 10-3.

The Chiefs were down early in the first quarter thanks to a couple pass interference penalties that put the Patriots up 7-0 a few minutes into the AFC Championship title rematch.

Shortly after, Mahomes threw his third interception of the season, looking a bit shaken up as the 24-year-old grabbed his right hand following the play.

The Chiefs quickly regrouped and in the second quarter, extended their lead against their opponent with a beautiful four-yard touchdown run by tight end Travis Kelce, the veteran’s first rushing score of his career and just his fourth carry.

The Chiefs Are the NFL’s Best Second-Quarter Team

Kansas City fans remember the quick turnaround performed by Mahomes and company against AFC West rivals the Oakland Raiders in Week 2. After being down 10-0 after the first quarter, the Chiefs went into halftime up 28-10, eventually winning the game with that score.

As it stands, head coach Andy Reid’s men are the best second-quarter team in the league, scoring 148 points all season in just the second quarter alone, the most by any franchise. They finished the first half up 20-7 against Bill Belichick’s side.
