Maeda came out of the bullpen and threw 3.2 shutout frames during Detroit's walk-off win over the Dodgers. He allowed one hit and struck out five batters. For the first time this season, Maeda worked a bulk-relief role and the results looked great. He threw 34 of 55 pitches for strikes and generated 11 whiffs. He was crushed for 15 runs in just 6.1 innings over his previous two outings. Maeda will enter the second half without a clear role in Detroit. He's registered an unsightly 6.88 ERA and 55:23 K:BB through 69.1 frames.
Faedo (4-1) walked a batter and retired one via strikeout to earn the win in Sunday's 4-3 victory over the Dodgers. Faedo needed 12 pitches to close out the top of the ninth inning, then scooped up the win when the Tigers scored twice in the bottom of the frame. The righty finished a solid first half of the season in which he posted a 3.50 ERA and 38 strikeouts across 43.2 innings of relief. Faedo will remain a bullpen option for the Tigers after the All-Star break, and he can give the team multiple innings when needed.
McKinstry went 1-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Dodgers. He also stole a base. McKinstry showed off his speed in the last game of the first half, as he recorded his third triple of the season and seventh stolen base. The utility player got the start at shortstop with Javier Baez (back) held out, though Baez is not expected to need a stint on the injured list. McKinstry will slot into a reserve role after the All-Star break if Baez is healthy, which limits the former's fantasy upside.
Baez (back) is not currently slated to be placed on the injured list, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Baez isn't starting Sunday against the Dodgers after being removed early from Saturday's contest due to a lower-back injury. He's available only in an emergency situation Sunday, per Jason Beck of MLB.com. However, manager A.J. Hinch described Baez's outlook as "encouraging" and said that the veteran infielder is in better spirits, and it appears that he may be good to go when play resumes Friday following the All-Star break.
Rogers is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. Rogers is on the bench for the third time in four games to close out of the All-Star break. Carson Kelly will get the nod behind the plate once again Sunday, but the Tigers' catching situation remains fluid. Manager A.J. Hinch will likely ride the hotter bat of the two, and right now, Kelly looks to be the favored option. Kelly will head into Sunday's contest with a seven-game hitting streak.
Canha (wrist) said Sunday that he will rest and do treatment over the All-Star break and hopes to be able to play in Detroit's first game of the second half next Friday in Toronto, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Canha exited Saturday's 11-9 extra-inning win over the Dodgers early due to a sore wrist and isn't in the lineup for Sunday's series finale, though Jason Beck of MLB.com notes that the veteran is available in an emergency situation. Canha doesn't look like he'll need a trip to the injured list, especially with the extra rest afforded by the All-Star break.
Vest (2-3) tossed a scoreless inning of relief to earn the win in Saturday's 11-9, 10-inning victory over the Dodgers. He walked one and struck out one. Vest was the last of six Detroit pitchers to appear in the contest, and he calmly navigated the top of the 10th inning on 12 pitches before Gio Urshela ended the game with a walk-off homer in the bottom half. The veteran righty has been solid once again this season with a 3.27 ERA and 36 strikeouts across 41.1 innings. Vest should continue to work in a high-leverage setup role for the Tigers ahead of Jason Foley, though it's a fairly fluid bullpen, and Vest could see some save opportunities down the stretch if Foley stumbles.
Urshela went 1-for-1 with a game-winning, two-run home run in Saturday's 11-9, 10-inning win over the Dodgers. Urshela started the day on the bench, but he ended up capping off a wild comeback win for the Tigers with a walk-off shot, his fourth home run of the season. The veteran has been heating up lately, as he's batting .351 over his last 10 games with two long balls and eight RBI. He should be a solid if not spectacular fantasy option moving forward.
