The Chicago Bears are still trimming their roster down to the required 53 players. The team’s initial 53-man roster was supposed to be set late Saturday afternoon, but almost two hours after the league’s deadline, the team has yet to release their full roster.  When Chicago does finally reveal their 53-man squad, by no means does it mean the roster is finalized. Injuries, available free agents, and performance can all still factor in and change things on a daily basis.

In fact, Chris Emma of 670 The Score thinks one player who was let go today could very well be starting Week 1 for Chicago:

The First Cuts Weren’t Surprising in the Least…

Running back Napoleon Maxwell, wide receivers Alex Wesley and Ahmad Wagner, offensive lineman Corey Levin, defensive lineman Lee Autry and linebacker Keandre Jones were the first players waived.

The team has just began it’s second round of cuts, waiving defensive lineman Trevon McSwain, per Brad Biggs. Wideout Thomas Ives was next, followed by kicker Cairo Santos. Santos’ release is a mild surprise, only because Bears coach Matt Nagy had said last month the team would carry two kickers onto their roster. Thus, it’s likely Santos will be one of the 16 players on the team’s practice squad.

Another likely practice squad candidate, running back Artavis Pierce, was next to be released. Defensive lineman Abdullah Anderson and defensive tackle LaCale London, both strong candidates for the practice squad. Cornerback Stephen Denmark, a seventh-round pick for the Bears in 2019, was also waived, per Biggs.

Cornerback Xavier Crawford, a 2019 sixth-round pick, was also waived and is another practice squad candidate. Offensive linemen Dieter Eiselen, Badara Traore and Sam Mustipher were also cut.

As the day grew longer, the team released outside linebacker Isaiah Irving and cornerback Kevin Toliver, the latter of which was surprising. Expected practice squad quarterback Tyler Bray was also waived. Biggs later released a huge list of players waived, which included Khalil Mack’s younger brother Ledarius.
