Despite all of the stars on the Chicago Bears roster, the most famous athlete at Soldier Field on Sundays is often Olympic gymnast Simone Biles.
Biles, the wife of Bears safety Jonathan Owens, again grabbed the spotlight for a brief moment in Week 12 against the Minnesota Vikings after her husband made a second-down stop near the goal line during the first quarter that saved a touchdown — and then some.
Owens met Vikings running back Aaron Jones in the backfield and ripped the football out of his grasp, creating a turnover and gaining possession for Chicago. He then gathered his defensive teammates to celebrate the stop before the Fox Sports broadcast went to a shot of Biles pointing at her husband and joining in the celebration from a private box.
“[Jonathan Owens] makes a play and [Simone Biles] is pumped 🙌,” Fox captioned the video, which can be seen here.”
Jonathan Owens Has Knack for Making Spotlight-Stealing Plays
It’s not often that an NFL player is the second-best athlete inside his own marriage, though that is the case with Owens, who has been in the league since 2019.
Owens was undrafted in 2018 out of Missouri Western State but caught on with the Houston Texans the following year. He spent his first four professional seasons in Texas before joining the Green Bay Packers in 2023. He signed a two-year, $4.75 million contract with Chicago during the offseason.
The safety slowly built his way into a rotation player and then a starter, starting all 17 games for the Texans in 2022 — his final season with the team. Owens played in all 17 contests with the Packers last season, starting 11 of them as a member of the secondary.
Owens has not started a game in Chicago, though he has appeared in all of them and has made a couple of high-profile plays that have put him in the spotlight, and subsequently highlighted his marriage to Biles as well.
He returned a blocked punt for a touchdown in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans in his first ever game with the Bears. Owens also single-handedly created the stop, fumble and turnover against the Vikings on Sunday at Soldier Field.
The safety recorded a touchdown last year with the Packers as well, returning a fumble for a score.
Simone Biles Fixture of American Sports, Both as Star and Spectator
Biles has become a fixture on NFL sidelines over the past several years, but her true stardom extends well beyond cameos around the league.
Biles is an 11-time Olympic medalist, capturing seven golds, two silvers and two bronzes over the course of her professional career. She won five of those medals (three gold, one silver and one bronze) during the Summer Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
She has also claimed 30 World Championship medals, 23 of which are golds, and six World all-around titles. In total, Biles’ accomplishments have made her almost inarguably the best female gymnast in the history of the sport.
