Update: Von Miller turned himself in to Glenn Heights, Texas, police on Thursday, November 30, according to The Dallas Morning News. Per the report, “A city spokesperson said he was released from the DeSoto regional jail after posting a $5,000 bond early Thursday evening.”
An arrest warrant was issued for former Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller following an incident in which he’s accused of assaulting a pregnant woman in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday, November 29.
According to The Dallas Morning News, the arrest warrant affidavit indicates the woman and Miller have been in a romantic relationship for seven years and that she is six weeks pregnant.
While Miller has two sons with a woman named Megan Denise, the woman involved is not named in the affidavit. Denise turned off comments on her Instagram account after news of the arrest warrant broke.
Police responded to a major disturbance call around 11:45 a.m. local time on November 29 and Miller was not present when the police showed up, The Dallas Morning News reported.
According to the outlet:
Police allege in the court document that the argument, which started over upcoming travel plans, began about 10:40 a.m. in the main bedroom of their apartment. The woman then went into their home office and slammed the door, which the affidavit says made Miller ‘visibly angry.’
Miller then walked into the office and yelled at the woman to ‘get out,’ the affidavit says. The woman tried to comply, but wanted time to retrieve some of her belongings, such as her laptop and phones.
As she was grabbing them, the affidavit says Miller shoved and pushed her. The woman repeatedly yelled ‘Stop, I’m pregnant.’
Miller continued to push the woman as he stepped on her feet, which caused her to fall back into a chair, the affidavit says. He then put a hand on her neck and applied pressure for 3 to 5 seconds, according to the affidavit, which police say caused pain but not difficulty breathing. As she continued to try to gather her belongings, Miller grabbed her phone, threw her laptop on the floor and stomped on it, the affidavit says.
As she tried to pick up her laptop, Miller yanked her hair, pulling a chunk of it out and causing her to collapse, the affidavit says. She got up and began to record Miller on her phone, which she put in her pocket, police wrote in the affidavit.
Per the affidavit, when the police arrived, they reported “‘minor abrasions’ on her left hand, as well as bruising on her abdomen, left bicep and neck that was ‘consistent with applied pressure,'” the outlet reported.
Miller and his current team, the Buffalo Bills, are on a bye this week.
After news of the arrest warrant broke, the Bills issued the following statement: “This morning, we were made aware of an incident involving Von Miller. We are in the process of gathering more information and will have no further comment at this point.”
Local news station WFAA obtained audio of the 911 call in which the woman can be heard saying, “My boyfriend is choking and hitting me.” However, the news outlet reported that when reached by text message, the woman called the incident “a huge misunderstanding.”
“We’re fine,” she told the outlet. “Things were blown way out of context. This is actually outrageous! No one assaulted anyone. This is insane. And sad.”
Von Miller Was Investigated Following Leaked Messages in 2021
In January 2021, Miller was investigated by Parker, Colorado, police. But in March 2021, the district attorney declined to press charges.
The investigation came just days after Denise leaked messages from Miller saying, “I’m honestly praying for a miscarriage,” and, “I hate you! … You gon get yours! Believe that,” according to The Washington Post.
In another exchange shared by Denise, a text reads, “And get an abortion!”
Miller appeared to deny the allegations on his Instagram page, writing, according to the outlet: “Fake News. Lol The reality of somebody leaving you make some people literally crazy. Classic Trap.”
Despite the investigation and Miller never facing charges, Denise later posted an Instagram Story saying, “In light of recent media reports regarding my relationship with Von, I feel that I need to address a couple of things. First and foremost, at no point in our relationship was there any type of physical abuse or violence by Von, whatsoever,” according to The Post. “For anyone to say otherwise, or to speculate such, is wrong.
“With regards to my social media posts, a part was misconstrued and taken out of context. I do regret making a private situation public, and in doing so, bringing unwanted attention to both Von and myself. Von and I are excited to be welcoming our baby into the world, and are committed to raising our child with love and compassion, together as a family.”
Von Miller Could Lose Out on $17 Million in 2024: Report
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Miller’s $17.4 million salary for the 2024 season — all fully guaranteed for injury — could be in jeopardy.
Of the $17 million, only $10.7 million is fully guaranteed without the injury and it will become guaranteed in March 2024.
Miller’s contract allows the Bills to void the guarantees if he is suspended under the Personal Conduct Policy, per Florio. If Miller is given a suspension from the NFL before the 2024 season begins, the guarantees could be voided.
So far in 2023, Miller has played in eight games for the Bills and has barely been able to appear on the stat sheet, recording just 2 combined tackles and no sacks. Buffalo is 3-5 in those eight games, including a walk-off loss to the Broncos in Week 10.
