Another star player is banged up for the Green Bay Packers.
Packers wide receiver Davante Adams was deemed questionable to return to Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions with a hamstring injury after coming out in the third quarter, and ultimately ended up spending the rest of the afternoon watching from the sidelines. He had caught three passes for 36 yards prior to his injury after a career-best 14 receptions in Week 1’s win.
According to Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Adams limped off the field at the end of the first quarter and was walking “a little gingerly,” receiving some attention from the Packers’ training staff. It was a good sign then when Adams caught quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ third pass of the second quarter, leaving Lions rookie cornerback Jeff Okudah in his dust with a deadly route release that got him a first down. He made another two receptions before halftime.
Adams, however, spent most of the third quarter looking frustrated on the sideline with his helmet off and was eventually ruled questionable to return, which became needless when the Packers took a 20-point lead into the fourth quarter.
Adams is the No. 1 receiving option in Rodgers’ arsenal and reinforced as much last week when he caught 14 of 17 targets for 156 yards and two touchdowns during Week 1’s win in Minnesota. The 27-year-old wideout seemed to be picking up right where he left off during January’s postseason run, when he caught 17 passes for 298 yards and two scores over two games for the Packers.
Now, his injury leaves the Packers with just three healthy wideouts on their active roster with Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Lazard and Malik Taylor — who has still not made his first NFL reception after spending the 2019 season on the practice squad. The Packers also have three more wide receivers to consider for elevation on this year’s practice squad with Reggie Begelton, Darrius Shepherd and Robert Foster.

Packers Offense Shows No Signs of Slowing
Adams’ status will be one of the most important things for Green Bay to monitor heading into Week 3, but the Packers offense didn’t have much trouble putting up 40-plus points on its second straight opponent.
Aaron Jones became a spark plug for the Packers on Sunday in ways he often was during his breakout 2019 season, rattling off for a 75-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter and finishing with a career-high 168 rushing yards. He was also the Packers’ leading receiver with 68 yards and a touchdown reception, giving him three total after his 14-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter.
Rodgers seemed content to spread the offense around even before Adams was forced out of the game, throwing a team-high eight passes in the direction of Jones but also putting up seven for Valdes-Scantling (three catches, 64 yards) and five more for Lazard (three catches, 45 yards). Fourth-year tight end Robert Tonyan also secured a pair of passes, including an 11-yard touchdown reception.
Even still, the receiver position could be one the Packers look to address in the upcoming week after putting Equanimeous St. Brown on injured reserve on Saturday. A lingering injury to Adams would only intensify the lack of depth at the position, and the roster spot left behind by St. Brown would allow them to add more personnel either from their practice squad or an outside channel.
