Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and fiancée Brittany Matthews sent shockwaves through social media on Sunday when they announced the arrival of their first-born baby girl, Sterling Skye Mahomes.
However, Kansas City’s “first couple” weren’t the only ones to welcome a newborn in recent days. According to his official social media accounts, Chiefs DB Armani Watts also welcomed a baby girl into the world on Friday, February 19 — just one day ahead of Mahomes.
While Twitter first heard of the news on Sunday, Watts first posted about his exciting family addition on his Instagram on Saturday.

Watts’ Baby Girl Arrives 1 Month Early
Instagram photos show that Watts has been together with his significant other, Mikayla Mobley, since at least October 2018. Mobley first revealed she was pregnant last August 31 in an Instagram post captioned “I can’t wait to meet you 🥰 Baby Watts on the way💖 our little girl is expected March 19!!”
Coincidentally enough, March 19 would have marked Watts’ 25th birthday.
Born exactly one month early at four pounds and 14 ounces, Leia Ray Watts is one of the newest members of Chiefs Kingdom, which is expected to grow in the coming months as WR Gehrig Dieter and wife Meg Dieter also announced on Friday that they are eagerly anticipating the arrival of their second daughter.
Fortunately for all three players and their families, the babies waited until after a trip to Super Bowl LV to make a grand entrance.
Watts Entering Final Year of Rookie Contract
Originally drafted in the fourth round (No. 124 overall) by Kansas City in 2018, Watts has primarily made his mark as a special teams stalwart through his first three seasons as a pro, including playing at least 73% of the unit’s snaps in all 16 games last season. Filling a role behind Tyrann Mathieu, Juan Thornhill and Daniel Sorensen, Watts nearly matched his 2019 defensive output again in 2020, posting 17 combined tackles, aided by a career-high eight total tackles during his first-career start in Week 17.
Heading into 2021, the Texas A&M product will be on the final year of his rookie deal, with a salary cap hit of $1.08 million. Given his upside and minimal financial impact, Watts could be added incentive for the Chiefs to let Sorensen test the free agent market when it officially opens on March 17.
At present, the Chiefs remain about $15 million over the projected team cap number of approximately $180 million, according to recent reports from NFL Network and Pro Football Network. That $15 million number also factors in the $5.1 million the Chiefs will carry over into the new league year.
Overall, the AFC champions have a number of avenues to explore as they work to clear their books of some excess money — none of which should include Watts.
