Giants Depth Chart Hints at Blockbuster Wide Receiver Signing [LOOK]

The New York Giants agreed to terms on a deal with former first-round pick John Ross on Tuesday. However, they’ve yet to add the big-ticket pass catcher they’ve been in desperate search of. Although, that could soon be changing.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the team has been in talks with wide receiver Kenny Golladay and are expected to bring him in for a visit prior to signing him to a deal.

By the sound of it, if all goes well, Golladay could very well be donning a Giants uniform in the near future.

“My understanding is that Kenny Golladay and the Giants have mutual interest,” ESPN’s Jordan Raanan tweeted. “Golladay wants to be in New York and has been pushing to make this happen throughout the process. A good sign if Giants like what they hear and see from a potential visit.”

Golladay missed 11 games in 2020 due to hip and hamstring injuries, which could be the reason for his visit to East Rutherford, as the team likely wants to take a closer look before committing big money to the top free-agent receiver.

After visits being barred from free agency last season due to the pandemic, players are now able to travel to team facilities under specific COVID-19 protocol. Players are allowed to enter team facilities to take part in a tryout, take physicals and/or sign a contract once they’ve passed a Messa rapid PCR COVID-19 test, per Pro Football Talk.

Giants Have Been Readily Linked to Golladay

New York’s interest in Golladay has been arguably the worst-kept secret in the NFL. Raanan reported last week that the belief around the league is that the Giants were very much in on the big-bodied wideout. The team also reportedly inquired about acquiring Golladay at last year’s trade deadline.

As we touched on above, Golladay was limited to just five games in 2020 due to multiple lower body injuries. However, he’s just one season removed from leading the NFL with 11 receiving touchdowns. Over his four-year career, the former third-round pick has amassed 183 receptions for 3,068 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns.

Pro Football Focus recently projected the Giants to ink Golladay to a four-year, $85 million ($21.25M APY) contract with $57.5 million total guaranteed.

Contract Analysis: We don’t think the rumors of him to the Giants through trade were by accident; Golladay’s representation was probably trying to help him land on a team more interested in giving him the long-term contract he deserves.
