Bruce Arians Sounds off on Original Super Bowl Parade Plans

Bruce Arians

Getty Bruce Arians voiced his opinion about a Super Bowl parade on Monday morning with the Los Angeles Times.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians won’t get on a truck to show off the Lombardi Trophy as he expressed hopes for with the Los Angeles Times’ Sam Farmer, but the Super Bowl-winning coach will at least get to have the parade.

Whether or not a Tampa would hold a parade remained in doubt due to COVID-19 per WSTP’s Eric Glasser. Arians, concerned about a parade not happening, adamantly voiced his thoughts with Farmer on Monday morning.

“First Super Bowl team winners that can’t have a parade, because of the pandemic,” Arians said. “It’s melancholy or whatever, but I want to get on a damn truck and ride through the city with the damn trophy, man. Watch the fans. This is their trophy”

Good news for Arians, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced on Tuesday that a parade will set sail to celebrate their Super Bowl LV victory. The Bucs will celebrate with a boat parade at 1 p.m. on Wednesday per The Athletic’s Greg Auman.

Parade Details

The boat parade will sail through the city’s waterfront on the Hillsborough River according to ESPN’s Jenna Laine. The Bucs’ pro sports neighbor and defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning recommend a boat parade on Monday.

Tampa will have public viewing areas for the parade per Buccaneers.com Carmen Vitali. The Lightning used a similar route in the fall when celebrating its Stanley Cup win over the Dalla Stars according to Fox 13.

Fans can watch a live stream of the parade on 10 Tampa Bay per WSTP’s Thuy Lan Ngyuen.

Road to the Lombardi Trophy

The Bucs ousted the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs 31-9 on Sunday as Bucs quarterback Tom Brady won the Super Bowl MVP and his seventh championship. Kansas City struggled offensively, scoring fewer than 10 points for the first time since 2017 as the Bucs defense shut down Patrick Mahomes and company.

Tampa became the first team ever to play and win a Super Bowl in its home stadium. The Bucs won three road games in the NFC playoffs to reach the Super Bowl as the fifth seed in the conference — beating Washington, New Orleans, and Green Bay.

Tampa overcame a stellar performance by backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke at Washington to win 31-23. Linebacker Devin White sparked the Bucs defense at New Orleans with a fumble recovery and interception in a 30-20 win. Wide receiver Scotty Miller’s 39-yard touchdown catch late before halftime gave the Bucs separation from Green Bay in a 31-26 victory.

Sparked by the addition of Brady signing in March 2020, the Bucs acquired a crew of veteran star skill players in addition to an already solid roster despite being mired in a 13-year streak of no playoff appearances. Bucs skill player additions Antonio Brown, Rob Gronkowski, and Leonard Fournette all reached the end zone in the Super Bowl. The Bucs improved from 7-9 in 2019 to 11-5 in 2020, reeling off four consecutive wins in the final month of the regular season.

Brady and company lifted the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy in 18 years — that last time coming in the 2002 season.
