A heavyweight battle between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez is now set for UFC 108, and the winner will receive a title shot.
MMA Weekly reported the news today. Heavy.com has confirmed with sources close to the UFC that the bout will likely serve as the main event for the Jan. 2 show.
Both Nogueira and Velasquez were in line to face the winner of the Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin match. With that bout postponed indefinitely and UFC 108 in need of a main event, the decision was made to match up the two top contenders in the heavyweight division for an elimination bout.
Nogueira is coming off an impressive victory over Randy Couture at UFC 102, and Velasquez dominated Ben Rothwell at UFC 104 last month.
