iPhone 5S To Go Into Production In June for September 2013 Release

The iPhone 5S has been rumored since the iPhone 5 was released in September 2012, but after Tim Cook’s recent earnings call — where he said he was excited for the new devices coming in the “Fall of 2013 and throughout 2014” — rumors about the potential device have died down…until today.

According to Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, a Japanese newspaper, Sharp will begin manufacturing LCD panels for the iPhone 5S next month. According to the website, Apple also sent orders to Japan Display and LG Display. Both companies have already started mass-producing iPhone 5S parts, according to MacRumors.

Gottabemobile.com says that the report from Nikkan also indicates that the screen will be similar to the iPhone 5 — so no bigger iPhone 5S to combat the the Samsung Galaxy S4.

But a separate report from AppleInsider — which talks about Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty’s recent research note — says that there are “several iPhone models” that Apple is planning to release, but the iPhone 5S will have a similar design to the iPhone 5.

Huberty’s note also validates Nikkan’s report as well. According to Huberty, sources within the Apple supply chain said that the iPhone 5S will go into production in June or July, and be ready for a September 2013 release.

This is all good news for Apple fans, especially after rumors of kinks in the supply chain and potential delays for the iPhone 5S and 6. The verdict is still out for iOS 7, which is apparently so drastically different that Jony Ive has brought in developers from the OS X team.
