WATCH: Microsoft Debuts Surface Pro & Surface Pro 2: Live Coverage HERE at 10:30 a.m. EDT

Microsoft will be announcing two new tablets at 10:30 a.m. EDT on September 23. The new Surface 2 & Surface Pro 2 will be unveiled — followed by the Microsoft team doing a Reddit AMA at 3 p.m. Eastern time.

11:40 a.m.: The announcement has finished. Head to reddit at 3pm today for an AMA with the Microsoft team for the surface 2 tablets.

11:40 a.m.: Microsoft has high hopes. Panos tries to introduce the audience to the actual customers they claim that Surface will be essential.

11:38 a.m.: Surface 2-64GB storage and 4GB RAM, 128GB storage and 4GB RAM, and also 256GB of storage with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage with 8GB of RAM.

11:35 a.m.: The Surface 2 pre-orders will start at 8am tomorrow. BOTH will be available on October 22nd. The Surface 2 is $449 and the pro 2 is $899. The RT will remain at $349.

11:34 a.m.: The surface remix project Panos hopes is the next big product that will come away from the team at the Microsoft Redmond facility.

11:32 a.m.: Microsoft has a special new app that works with Xbox music.

11:31 a.m.: Panos introduces the new Surface Mix Project meant for aspiring DJs.

11:30 a.m.: The release date will be 10/22

11:26 a.m.: Both new tablets are already being advertised.

11:25 a.m.: Both new type covers will be compatible with previous products.

11:25 a.m.: The new touch cover will have predictive typing. Essentially a better version of “auto-correct”

11:24 a.m.: A new Surface 2 touch cover 2 is demoed with the same features for the Surface Pro 2. Backlit and 1mm thick.

11:24 a.m.: The Surface 2 will be sold for $449.

11:24 a.m.: Buying a Surface 2 will give you 200GB of Skydrive.

11:22 a.m.: Skydrive will quickly and easily restore data if all is lost.

11:21 a.m.: The device is Bitlocker encrypted.

11:20 a.m.: The device will have excellent memory with Skydrive and Panos gives the audience a scare by looking like he is prepared to throw it to test durability.

11:16 a.m.: The new camera and skype have a better working relationship with each other. Included in the surface Pro % Surface Pro 2 will be a free one year package, international calling and free Wifi.

11:15 a.m.: The front facing camera is a highlight of the new Surface tablet when it comes to skype and the camera. Panos demonstrates how the kickstand can adjust angles and light fixtures.

11:13 a.m.: Panos remarked on the Windows 8.1 multitasking abilities discussing separately Xbox Music and Skype.

11:11 a.m.: Microsoft is now explaining the Windows 8 Halo game with Julie Larson Green controlling the game from the audience.

11:10 a.m.: Panos runs a demo of how Outlook can interface with all four Office apps. Microsoft seems to be honing in on productivity for these two new tablets.

11:08 a.m.: The apps are supposed to be the highlight according to Panay. Another new addition will be Outlook RT.

11:06 a.m.: The Surface 2 will actually run with Windows RT 8.1 OS with over 100,000 apps with Facebook and Flipboard confirmed.

11:06 a.m.: Panos claims this won’t slow down and it will actually be faster.

11:05 a.m.: The tablet will launch with Windows 8.1

11:04 a.m.: The new Surface 2 has the same injection process as the last time. The product got lighter and thinner.

11:03 a.m.: The screen for the Surface 2 is a 1080p cleartype display.

11:02 a.m.: The Surface 2 is in silver and they have increased the speed dramatically.

11:01 a.m.: Microsoft shows a video for the new Surface 2 thats basically the exact same as the first commercial.

10:59 a.m.: Panay announces the new Surface 2 calling it the “revamp people need.” He wants this new tablet to inspire productivity and move people away from iPads.

10:57 a.m.: Panay summarizes the new tablet as this: 75 percent more battery life and the kickstand now allows “lapability”

10:55 a.m.: Panay implied the new covers may not be coming out soon. The new type cover is backlit.

10:54 a.m.: The Type cover 2 is almost as thin as Touch Cover 1.

10:52 a.m.: Panos mentions a process where movie makers can use the Surface Pro 2 to and process 6K raw data. He claims it has the full power of a PC in tablet form.

10:51 a.m.: Surface Pro 2 slides easily out of the docking station.

10:50 a.m.: Panos makes a crack about Macbooks…..

10:48 a.m.: “3x USB 3.0, 1x USB 1.0, Mini DisplayPort, Ethernet, Audio in, Audio Out, Power.” are the specs according to The Verge for the new docking station.

10:47 a.m.: The Surface Pro will be targeted towards businesses. Panay is introducing the Surface 2 docking station.

10:14 a.m.: Apple sold 9 million iPhones over the weekend according to Reuters. Im sure Microsoft is probably hoping they can reach that same number once the two new Surfaces announced.
