Lavabit, the email provider that came under scrutiny during the Edward Snowden debacle, has launched their Kickstarter campaign for their new service called The Dark Mail Alliance.
Started by Lavabit founder Ladar Levinson, the campaign hopes to raise $196,608 in order to release their encryption technology to the public for their new service. So far, the project has accumulated $22,304 with 22 days left to go. As of 2:45 PM EDT, 662 backers are supporting this initiative protect their email. The purpose of The Dark Mail Alliance is to essentially protect the entirety of email for NSA detection. This includes covering the metadata which most platforms now can’t do.
