OS X Yosemite: Price & Release Date Info

Apple originally showcased OS X Yosemite earlier this year at WWDC. Shortly after that, the company opened up a public beta program for people who wanted to try out OS X Yosemite a bit early. At the Apple keynote event on October 16, the company revealed when OS X Yosemite would finally get its stable, public release.

Yosemite will be available on the Mac App store starting today, October 16. It will be free, but not all Macs will be compatible. Check the Mac App store for more info about compatibility.

OS X Yosemite is notable for its improved notification center and “super-charged” Spotlight search, allowing you to search both your local drive and the Internet at large for the information you need. Yosemite also offers more functionality in Mail, allowing you to use Markup to fill out a form in your inbox, or add captions or diagrams on top of your photos. OS X Yosemite will also include easy location sharing, as well as a new shelf in iTunes for new purchases. iWork and Keynote have also been updated for Yosemite users.

Yosemite also supports cross-platform productivity, since it is designed to play nice with iOS 8. Continuity in the Apple ecosystem lets you use features like Handoff to start a project on one device, and then pick up where you left off on another Apple device, be it an iMac, MacBook, iPad, or iPhone. Macs running OS X Yosemite let you take calls, too.
