In a somewhat surprising move, Apple took time out of their Apple Watch live stream today to highlight a brand new MacBook. You can get it in silver, space gray, or gold, which are also the same colors Apple offers for the latest iPhones. The new MacBook will ship on April 10. Depending on what specs you choose, you’ll pay between $1,299 and $1,599 for this shiny new MacBook.
Here’s what you need to know about this 12-inch MacBook:
1. The New MacBook Has a Glass ‘Force Touch TrackPad’
This new trackpad has the taptic engine built in, which means this MacBook is borrowing some of the new tech you’d find inside the Apple Watch. You can click anywhere on the pad for the same sensation, or even customize the feel of the pad.
New gestures called “force clicks” let you make a deep push with your cursor hovering over a word to get automatic Wikipedia info for that word. Force clicking on an address pulls up a map.
2. The New MacBook is the Thinnest, Lightest Laptop Apple’s Ever Made
It weighs just two pounds and is a mere 13.1mm thin.
3. The New MacBook Consumes Less Energy
The screen panel consumes 30 percent less energy than previous MacBook displays. This laptop has a Retina display. It has a 2304 x 1440 resolution.
4. This Is the First Fanless MacBook
Because this MacBook has no fan, it operates in total silence. This is great news for people who hate loud computer fans.
5. This MacBook Is Designed for Optimum Battery Life
Removing the fan made room for more batteries, and Apple is using improved battery technology as well. This means improved battery life for the new MacBook.
Apple declares that this new MacBook has all-day battery life. In their tests, the battery could last up to 10 hours.
