iPhone 6S and 6S Plus: Price, Specs, Features & Release Date Info

For anyone who didn’t get the iPhone 6 when it was released in 2014, now you can skip directly to the 6S.

This is an ongoing post and will be updated as Apple reveals more details. Refresh for the latest news.

1. iPhone 6S: Price

The 6S and 6S Plus are the same price as the 6 and the 6 Plus. So that means the 6S will start at $199 for 16 GB and the 6S Plus will start at $299. You can get them in silver, gold, rose gold and of course space grey.

2. iPhone 6S: Key Specs

As you can expect, the phone is much faster. The new A9 64 bit chip, the CPU is 70% faster and the GPU is 90% faster. That means you’ll switch from apps more quickly, download easier and all photos and videos will look vibrant.

The 6S has a 4.7 retina display and the 6S Plus has a 5.5. They both feature a new and stronger glass screen. With this, the Touch ID is twice as fast, so it will recognize your fingerprint more easily and let you into your phone.

The phone has a new M9 motion coprocessor that is always on. This means that you can get a more accurate motion sensor to help with fitness. See how many steps you walk each day without having a certain app drain energy.

Lastly, you can now access Siri without touching the Home button. Much like Google, just say “Hey, Siri” and ask your question. She will be activated by the voice commands.

3. iPhone 6S: Coolest Features

3D Touch is the coolest new feature for sure. Now you don’t have to move in and out of apps all the time. If you get an address in a text message, just hold down and look at maps. Let go and you’ll be right back in messages. If you want to switch over to that address, just hold down harder. The same works for times, flight numbers and web pages. You can also swipe up for actions. This also works with apps. Hold down on certain apps and get a list of actions so you don’t have to actually open the entire app.

The camera is even better than the 6 and can shoot 12 megapixels, which is 50% more than the previous phone. It can even shoot 4K video for the first time on an iPhone. Now you can shoot something called Live Photos. Shoot a photo, and you can press on it and parts of it will move. You don’t have to do anything differently to take a live photo. Just take pictures and the phone will capture a few moments before or after.
