Apple announced a brand new iPhone today during its September 7 keynote, the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. This phone has some marked improvements over previous models. However, a lot of fans are wondering if they should go ahead and purchase the iPhone 7 or if they should wait for the iPhone 8 to be released on what could be iPhone’s 10th anniversary.
Here’s what you need to know.
Experts and media never expected the iPhone 8 to be released today, but this doesn’t mean that Apple fans aren’t already getting excited about the iPhone 8. In fact, the next iPhone might coincide with a big event in Apple’s timeline: the iPhone’s 10th anniversary. There are already rumors that the iPhone 8 will have some huge changes. MacRumors expects the changes to include edge-to-edge OLED display, a glass body, a faster processor, no home button, and wireless charging.
That’s pretty exciting.
The iPhone 8 is still on track and although Apple hasn’t given a specific release date, most experts believe it will be in the fall of 2017. If the iPhone 8 follows Apple’s traditional model, then we should expect to see the new iPhone unveiled during another Apple keynote in September 2017, with the phone available for purchase sometime in late September.
Of course, Apple bucked with tradition this year by introducing an iPhone SE in March. But it’s unlikely that the big iPhone 8 will make its debut that early, although we may see something new in spring 2017 too. The bottom line: unless you’re ready to wait another year, it might be a good time to get a new iPhone. But if you can’t afford a new model this year and next year both, then you might want to wait because the iPhone 8 will likely have some pretty major changes to brag about.
