‘Greenleaf’, OWN: When Will the Show Return?

Tonight was the midseason finale of Greenleaf on OWN, and fans will have to wait a few months to see how things pan out for their favorite characters– the show will return in August.

When Greenleaf premiered last June, it became the network’s #1 show and averaged over 3 million viewers in its first season, according to Eur Web. The series premiere, specifically, raked in 3.04 million viewers and a 2.18 rating, making it the biggest series launch in OWN history. It was also the most-watched show on cable the night of its release.

In March, it was announced that Netflix had picked up Greenleaf as an Original and would be picking it up for streaming in the US. Season 1 became available in most regions on March 3rd, and includes a total of 13 episodes.

Eur Web sat down with actor GregAlan Williams ahead of Wednesday’s mid-season finale to discuss his character, and what fans can expect from the midseason finale. Williams dished, “Major surprises. Major developments. Major crossroads. A number of characters are literally at the crossroads in the mid-season finale.”

Keith David, who plays Bishop James Greenleaf, also sat down with Oprah.com to discuss his role in the series and what makes his character different than the many others he’s played. “I get to explore him more fully than most other ones I’ve played before. What I love about this exploration is, you know, the preacher is just a man. Either you want to be like him or you don’t want to be like him. That’s ministry.”

Greenleaf was created by Craig Wright, and is executively produced by Oprah and Lionsgate Television. The show stars Keith David, Lynn Whitfield, Lamman Rucker, Kim Hawthorne, Lovie Simone, Merle Dandridge, Desiree Ross, Deborah Joy Winans, Tye White, GregAlan Williams, Benjamin Patterson, Anna Diop, Terri J. Vaughn, and Oprah Winfrey.
