A heavyweight bout between Frank Mir and Roy Nelson is being targeted for UFC 130.

Heavy.com confirmed the fight booking with a source close to the promotion on Friday afternoon. BetUS.com first reported the fight.

UFC 130 is expected to take place May 28 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It will serve as the promotion’s annual Memorial Day weekend event.

A former heavyweight champion, Mir defeated legendary PRIDE striker Mirko Cro Cop by third-round TKO at UFC 119 in September. Mir was knocked out by Shane Carwin last March in a title eliminator bout for the UFC interim heavyweight title. Carwin would go on to lose to Brock Lesnar at UFC 116.

Nelson lost a title eliminator bout to Junior dos Santos in August. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt defeated Brendan Schaub by TKO to capture the Ultimate Fighter season 10 championship. Nelson followed up that win by knocking out Stefan Struve in just 39 seconds.

Nelson and Mir share a unique history. The pair faced off against each other in a Grappler’s Quest tournament in 2003, with Nelson coming out on top.
