UFC bonus record-holder finishes second in District 28 voting

Chris Lytle‘s bid for a seat in the Indiana State Senate fell short on Tuesday.

The former UFC welterweight was attempting to win a seat in the state’s 28th District. But Lytle, a Republican who lives near Indianapolis, finished second in the voting behind winner Mike Crider. Lytle was one of three candidates in the race; he finished ahead of John Merlau in the voting.

Lytle retired from the UFC in August after a submission win over Dan Hardy at UFC on Versus 5 in Milwaukee. Lytle picked up a pair of bonus awards for the win – both Submission of the Night and Fight of the Night – plus a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He wrapped up his fighting career with a record of 31-18-5 with a 10-10 mark in the UFC that stretched all the way back to UFC 28.

But Lytle finished his UFC career with five wins in his last six fights. And his 10 bonus awards is a UFC record – including six for Fight of the Night.

According to Lytle’s official candidate website, among the issues in his campaign were job creation, illegal immigration, education, gun rights and property rights.

Lytle, also an Indianapolis firefighter, is a married father of four.
