Boston Bruins fans waited all offseason to have something to cheer about after last year’s crushing Game 7 loss to the rival Canadiens in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Riley Smith gave them what they needed on a first-period power play. Smith took a pass from Carl Soderberg and beat goalie Steve Mason to make it 1-0 Boston with 9:21 left in the first period. Patrice Bergeron also had an assist on the play.
