Many thought Saul “Canelo” Alvarez was going to finish Amir Khan via knockout on Saturday night in Las Vegas, and many were right.

The 25-year-old Mexican’s first middleweight title defense went swimmingly, as he stopped the challenger with a devastating right hand in the sixth round that nearly knocked Khan out cold.

You can watch video of the explosive finish above. And here it is in slow motion:

Of course, there aren’t a lot who are surprised by this result. Combine Canelo’s unparalleled punching power with Khan moving up two weight classes for this fight, and this felt like an inevitability, even with Khan using his speed to control the bout for the first handful of rounds.

It’ll be interesting to see what’s next for Alvarez, who is BoxRec.com’s best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and again displayed his show-stopping power on Saturday night.

Everyone, of course, wants to see him take on Gennady “GGG” Golovkin in what would be a thrilling exhibition of two absolutely explosive punchers. Canelo called out Triple G after his win on Saturday night, and we’ll see if that comes to fruition. Fellow Golden Boy fighter David Lemeiux is still a potential option after his impressive performance on Saturday, but it’s clear what everyone wants at this point.

Either way, Canelo has proven once again to be must-watch TV every time he steps inside the ring. That’ll again be the case no matter who’s opposing him.
