WWE Battleground 2016: The Results & Highlights You Need to Know

Winner: And still the WWE Champion, Dean Ambrose!

Highlights: Both rosters sat in the back to make sure they didn’t miss the match’s proceedings. Then both show’s Commissioners and General Managers arrived to watch the match in person. When the bell was finally rung, all three men stared each other down while the crowd rained down “ROMAN SUCKS!” chants. Rollins looked to once again unite with his brothers for old times sake, but Reigns shoved him down with a shoulder tackle. Reigns focuses his attention on Rollins for a bit, but Ambrose almost rolled up Reigns with a quick pin. Reigns and Ambrose locked up and soon exchanged strikes with each other. Rollins got back into the ring, got pushed out and cause Ambrose to almost get distracted and rolled up by Reigns. Both men got into a punching contest that ended when Ambrose jumped at Reigns with a running body splash. Reigns simply shoved him away while in midair. Rollins got back into the ring, but Reigns made sure to put him back down. Reigns and Ambrose got into a big brawl in one of teh ring corners for a good while.

Rollins finally got in some good offense when he hit a Slingblade on Reigns. He then began beating down Ambrose with his signature strikes. The action spilled to the outside after Reigns hit his Drive By dropkick on Rollins after Rollins face planted Ambrose in the corner. Ambrose vaulted onto both men when he recovered soon after. Rollins got back into the match by flinging his opponents all over the ringside area. When Reigns and Rollins got caught fighting near the ring announcer’s section, Ambrose ran across the announce tables and splashed them both. Back in the ring, Ambrose used his top rope offense to further ground Reigns. Ambrose looked to pin Reigns, but he got shoved off right into the direction of a Rollins Frog Splash. Rollins looked to capitalize on Reigns with a Pedigree, but Reigns used his comeback offense to beat down Rollins. Reigns landed tow big Superman Punches, but his Spear attempt failed. Ambrose and Rollins kicked him right in the face, but Rollins used a Pele to catch Ambrose off guard. Reigns landed another Superman Punch on Rollins, which caused him to turn around into an Ambrose Rebound Lariat.

When all three men got back to their feet, they all punched each other over and over. Ambrose and Rollins decided to team up on Reigns and even looked to land the old Shield Powerbomb. Reigns escaped it, but he ended up on the outside. Ambrose flew at him through the middle rope and Rollins flew over the top to put Reigns down. Ambrose and Rollins then pulled off their double team Powerbomb to plant Reigns right through the announce table. Rollins ended their partnership early when he cracked Ambrose’s back with a steel chair. Rollins then followed that up with a chair shot to Reigns’ back. Rollins then tried to finish Ambrose with a Pedigree, but Ambrose escaped it. He ended up getting lifted into a Powerbomb position, but Ambrose flipped Rollins over right into the corner. Soon, Rollins and Ambrose fought to the top rope. Rollins shocked the crowd after he landed his Superplex/Falcon Arron combination. Ambrose survived the following pin attempt, though. When both men ended up on the top rope again, Reigns ran into the ring and delivered Powerbomb’s to the both of them.

Reigns looked to land another Superman Punch, but Ambrose countered him and almost his his Dirty Deeds. They both countered each other at several points of this moment, but Ambrose paid the price after getting Superman Punched to the outside. Reigns turned right around and got dropped with a Rollins’ Pedigree. Reigns kicked out of the pin attempt soon after, though. Rollins signaled for another Pedigree, but it failed when Reigns powered out of it and laid him out with a Superman Punch and a Spear. Reigns was unable to grab the win, though. Ambrose ran in, landed his Dirty Deeds on Reigns and retained his championship. The entire SmackDown brand came out to celebrate with their WWE Champion.
