SXSW Interactive 2014 has a ton of cool tech events, but these five events are the must-see items on the program. Here are our top tech-related picks for SXSW 2014.
1. The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz
“The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz” is a documentary about Aaron Swartz, an Internet activist who killed himself after being threatened with legal action for his tech work. The film is directed by Brian Knappenberger (pictured above), who has worked for Bloomberg Television and the Discovery Channel. He also directed “We Are Legion: The Story of the Hacktivists.” The Aaron Swartz documentary will screen on March 7, 8, 11, and 15.
2. Edward Snowden
While he won’t be at SXSW Interactive, he will be speaking via videoconference. The event will consist of a conversation between Edward Snowden and Christopher Soghoian, the principal technologist of the American Civil Liberties Union. The two will be speaking about NSA shopping and how technology can be used to protect civil liberties. This talk occurs on March 10.
3. Tech Keynote Speakers: Adam Savage & Neil deGrasse Tyson
Both of these technology legends are so cool, they had to share the number three spot on our list. Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson will speak on March 8 about the universe. “Mythbusters” host Adam Savage will speak on March 10 about creativity and the scientific method.
4. AI & Robotics: From the Labs to the Living Room
The event will be presided over by Dror Oren, an executive director in the SRI Ventures team at SRI International. It will take place on March 9.
5. Body Computing: The Future of Networked Humans
“Body Computing: The Future of Networked Humans” is being held on March 8. The talk is hosted by Dr. Leslie Saxon, the Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. The event will discuss the future of body computing, implanted tech devices, and wearable technology.
