Not bad for the first 2015 postseason at-bat for Christian Colon.
After the speedy pinch-runner Jarrod Dyson moved his way around to third base via a steal and an Alex Gordon ground-out, the 26-year-old utility man came through with the biggest hit of his career in the top of 12th Sunday night (well, early Monday morning at Citi Field), knocking an RBI single into left field that won the World Series for the Kansas City Royals.
The Royals went on to add another four runs in the 12th inning to blow things wide open, but Colon’s hit will forever be remembered as the World Series-winning base knock. And of course, in fitting fashion, he did it with two strikes against him.
Colon, amazingly, had a similar at-bat last postseason when he had an RBI single in the 12th inning of the wild-card game. This gives him two 12th-inning RBI singles in two career postseason at-bats.
