Though he’s only 40 years old, Josh McDaniels is an NFL coaching veteran. He’s been the Patriots offensive coordinator since 2006, with a short stint as the Denver Broncos head coach in the middle, and he already has four Super Bowl rings. He is, to put it simply, one of the brightest young minds in the sport.

And he’s also a family man–he and his wife, Laura, have four children.

“I’ve learned if I don’t take time to enjoy the things that are important to me, I’ll look back 20 years from now and say, ‘What did I do this for?'” says McDaniels. “If that means leaving work early so I can see the kids and coming back earlier the next morning when they are sleeping anyway, that’s what I’ll do.”

Josh and Laura met in 2000 when both were working for the FiberTech plastics company in Cleveland. The couple married two years later and have since welcomed four children to the world: Jack (12 years old), Maddie (10), Livia (6), and Neenah (3).

“This line of work can swallow you up,” Laura says. “But when he’s with the kids, he can stop what he’s doing and talk about the school dance. That wasn’t easy for him. He’s worked on it and still is working on it. I think he has changed.”

Though Laura typically stays out of the spotlight, she was thrust into headlines in 2010 when it was rumored that Broncos running back Peyton Hills hit on her, prompting Josh–who was the head coach in Denver at the time–to trade Hillis to Cleveland.

The McDaniels family has put those rumors behind them, though, and since returning to New England in 2012, Josh has resumed his part at the helm of one of the league’s most powerful offenses, while Laura has resumed her role as the Matriach in a growing family.
