The San Jose Sharks will look to even the series against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday night.

If Game 1 is any indication of what’s to come, the 2016 Stanley Cup Final will be a closely contested match-up. Monday night’s game showed that both teams are well-matched and extremely fast.

The Penguins came out quick and played a dominant first period. Pittsburgh outshot the Sharks 15-4 in the first period to build a 2-0 lead with goals by Bryan Rust and Conor Sheary.

One of the things the Sharks have been able to do throughout the playoffs is bounce back. They showed their resiliency once again in the second period with goals from Thomas Hertl and Patrick Marleau.

The game was tied 2-2 when Nick Bonino scored with 2:33 remaining to give the Penguins a 3-2 win against the Sharks.

San Jose’s goaltending will be critical in Game 2 against the high-flying Penguins, who are averaging 35.4 shots per game in the playoffs.

Sharks’ Martin Jones stopped 38 of 41 shots, for a .927 save percentage in Game 1. However, it wasn’t enough for a win.

Penguins’ Bryan Rust is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury after a hit by Sharks winger Patrick Marleau.

Game 2 airs at 8 p.m. Eastern on NBC Sports in the U.S.
