LeBron James delivered on his promise to give Cleveland a championship. They miraculously came back from a 3-1 deficit against the Golden State Warriors. LeBron cements his legacy as a hero in Cleveland. But he’s far from the only hero Cavs fans are thanking tonight.
With under a minute to go, and the game tied at 89, Kyrie Irving was one-on-one with Steph Curry, and he nailed a 3-point shot to give Cleveland a 92-89 lead. With about 53 seconds to go in the game afterward, it was a lead the Cavaliers would not relinquish. LeBron had a huge role in bringing Kyrie Irving to Cleveland a couple of years ago. Tonight, Kyrie played hero.
Kyrie helped the Cleveland Cavaliers become the first team in NBA history to overcome a 3-1 deficit in the NBA Finals. Kyrie had already done more than his share in this series, scoring over 40 points in game 5. He and LeBron were the first teammates to ever both make 40 points in a game.
