The wait is finally over.
Tiger Woods made his anticipated return to competitive golf Thursday when he joined the elite 18-player field in the 2016 Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas
Woods got off to a hot start, shooting 4-under over his first 8 holes at Albany. But then things to a turn and he finished his final 10 holes at 5-over.
The 14-time major winner ended his first round at 1-over 73 and is in 17th out of 18 players.
Woods had birdies on Nos. 3 then 3 straight on 6, 7 and 8. He also birdied No. 15. He also had 2 double bogeys on 16 and 18.
The world’s former No. 1 player had been out since August 2015 after undergoing back surgery. Woods, whose last victory came in August 2013 at the Bridgestone Invitational, has dropped to No. 898 in the Official World Golf Rankings. Although he is expected to climb considerably after this weekend’s tournament, which isn’t an official PGA event but still counts in the rankings.
