Chance the Rapper on Thursday admitted that he screwed up. The 24-year-old Chicago rapper sent out a string of tweets apologizing to Dr. Dre for publicly mocking his music label, Aftermath.
Chance tried to squash any possible beef with the hip-hop legend by saying he made a huge mistake by using Aftermath’s logo on LED boards during his “Be Encouraged Tour.” He said that his intention with putting up rap labels’ logos on the LED board behind him was to “satirize and degrade major labels,” as he’s not signed to one and has shown you don’t have to be inked to be successful.
Chance added that the use of the “imprints” at his shows “not only dulled my overall point of trying to uplift artists, but also singled out artist-owned ventures that have only worked to progress the culture.”
“I set out to empower and I completely missed the ball,” he said.
In Chance’s shows on the 2017 tour, he performs the song “No Problem,” and the LED board in the back starts out by displaying his three Grammy Awards before a series of knock-off record label logos are shown. That’s obviously symbolizing that you don’t need a record label to make it in the music industry.

In March, Chance said that Apple Music, who is in a partnership with Dre, paid him $500,000 to exclusively release his album Coloring Book for two weeks. He “cleared things up” after fans started to question his independent status as a music artist.
Dre, now 52, is the founder and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment and Beats Electronics. He was formally an artist on Death Row Records and has seen his Aftermath label have an extreme rise in popularity after he formed it all the way back in 1996.
Dre is responsible for signing Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent and many more to his label and helping them forge their successful hip-hop career.
