Devante Adams took a huge hit to the head from Danny Trevathan on Thursday.

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams was taken to a nearby hospital after taking a huge hit to the head against the Chicago Bears on Thursday.

Adams was transported to the medical facility and was conscious with movement in his extremities. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after the game that Adams was in good spirits at the hospital, and the receiver tweeted Friday morning that he was at home “feeling great.”

The hard hit took place with under 5 minutes remaining in the third quarter with the Packers inside the red zone. On a third-and-goal from the 16-yard line, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers dropped back and connected with Adams on a pass over the middle, short of the end zone. Adams was wrapped up right away by several Bears defensive players as linebacker Danny Trevathan came storming in, lowering his helmet and laying a hit on the defenseless receiver’s facemask.

Adams’ mouth guard flew out of his helmet as he went tumbling to the ground. He didn’t appear to be moving as several players motioned immediately to the sideline for assistance after the play. Trevathan was flagged for unnecessary roughness on the play but stayed in the game.

On Friday, the NFL said it’s reviewing the hit and mulling potential discipline for the Bears player.

“There have already been discussions,” Joe Lockhart, the NFL’s executive vice president of communications and public affairs, told The Washington Post. “I don’t have a decision yet on whether discipline will be handed down.”

The Packers held a 21-7 lead when the hit took place and scored a touchdown on the very next play. Jordy Nelson caught a Rodgers pass for the score, which put them up 28-7 after the extra point by Mason Crosby. The Packers won the game, 35-14.

Following the game, Trevathan expressed concern and remorse for the hit on Adams, which he insisted was accidental and came as a result of “doing his job.”

Since his rookie season, Adams has emerged as one of Rodgers’ top targets through the air. Last season, he had a career-high 997 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He was selected as the No. 53-overall selection during the 2014 NFL Draft by the Packers out of Fresno State.
