The Masked Dancer‘s Group A performers took the stage for the first time since the premiere for January 20’s new episode. One of those Group A competitors was the Tulip.
Episode 4 offered a new dance and clues to influence the panelists’ guesses about the Tulip’s true celebrity identity. Read on for what we learned, and what we know so far.
BEWARE OF SPOILERS BELOW.
Tulip on ‘The Masked Dancer’ Clues
Before the first episode of The Masked Dancer aired, FOX’s Twitter account teased the Tulip’s identity, tweeting, “Yes, I know who’s under the mask. No, I can’t tell you. B̶u̶t̶ ̶i̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶p̶r̶i̶c̶e̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶r̶i̶g̶h̶t̶,̶ ̶I̶ ̶m̶i̶g̶h̶t̶ ̶l̶e̶t̶ ̶s̶o̶m̶e̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶s̶l̶i̶p̶.”
Some visual clues that stood out during the Tulip’s first video clue package were a clock that says “Tick Tock,” cereal with the number 11 on it, scrambled eggs, a field, and a rainbow.
Tulip said “growing up I was teased all the time,” adding that as a result, “my confidence tumbled.”
There were references made to Stranger Things and High School Musical. The Wizard of Oz or the hit Broadway musical Wicked was also referenced when the Tulip clicked her glittery green shoes together.
The Tulip’s tap dance performance during the premiere made the judges feel confident that the celebrity has dance training.
With the voice modulator deactivated to hear the celebrity’s real voice, she said “triple.” The panelists noted that her voice has a youthful tone, suggesting it might be a young celebrity beneath the mask. When asked if she was wearing her hair in a ponytail under her mask, the Tulip said “Yes.”
Tulip said the hardest part about the competition so far has been “keeping mum about it to everybody I know,” especially her best friend.
Some stand-out visual clues from the second video clue package were a field of flowers, a pyramid in Egypt, a flower crown, and a bell. The pyramid was circled as being an especially important clue to discovering her identity. Could it be a reference to the pyramids from Dance Moms?
Much of her clue package was dedicated to talking about her best friend, saying “day and night, she’s always there for me through my struggles.” She said that for her second performance of the season, “I have to be vulnerable and show emotion, which is very different from my first performance.”
Tulip mentioned being “frozen in place,” and the judges wondered if she has ties to the Disney movie Frozen.
When asked how she connects so emotionally “Well it wasn’t always easy growing up. I was judged a lot, and it hurt.” She said her “best bud” taught her to channel her emotions into her competition.
Tulip’s second “word-up” clue was “princess.”
‘The Masked Dancer’ Tulip Guesses
After the Tulip’s debut performance during the premiere, the panelists guessed she might be Charlie D’Amelio, or Glee‘s Heather Morris.
Tulip’s second performance was a skillful partner dance to “Field of Gold” that moved the panelists.
Paula Abdul guessed Sarah Hyland or Hayden Panettiere, before changing her guess to Kristen Bell because of the Frozen and princess references.
Ashley Tisdale guessed Charli D’Amelio because of the “hype” reference in the clue package – wondering if that could be a “Hype House” TikTok shout-ou. Guest judge Rob Lowe agreed with Tisdale’s guess.
Brian Austin Green said he got “distinct gymnast vibes,” and guessed Simone Biles.
New episodes of The Masked Dancer air on Wednesday nights at 8/7c on FOX.
