Update: check out our review for All Elite Wrestling Double or Nothing 2021 right here.
All Elite Wrestling is hitting the PPV stage once again. And unlike last year’s edition, the 2021 installment of Double or Nothing is going to run from Daily’s Place with a crowd at full capacity.
With that in mind, it’s clear that AEW is going to go all out thanks to a return to normalcy for its signature PPV event. Chances are high that all the belts will be on the line here as a new batch of #1 contenders rise up to take on the company’s kings (and queen in Hikaru Shida). The stakes are going to be super high once again as the top talents within AEW vie for championship honor and fight to come out on top in regards to their heated feuds. AEW knows how to put together a stacked card of matches and that’ll definitely be the case here for this year’s Double or Nothing.
Before May 30 arrives, let’s check out the complete match card for this upcoming AEW PPV and predict who will come out on top.
Serena Deeb (c) vs. Riho (NWA World Women’s Championship)
Predictions & Winner: HEY LOOK, IT’S RIHO! Where’s she been hiding all this time? The last time we saw her, she put on quite the banger with her opponent here during the Women’s World Championship Eliminator Tournament earlier this year. And for that reason alone, I’m super excited to see both ladies come to blows once again. Riho got the W last time, but that was a match that wasn’t for the NWA World Women’s Championship. This one is, however. This tells me that we’re not getting a title change. Sarena Deeb is definitely going to retain here after putting on another excellent contest with her Joshi rival.
Christian Cage vs. Matt Sydal vs. Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Evil Uno vs. Colt Cabana vs. Preston Vance vs. Jungle Boy vs. Matt Hardy vs. Marq Quen vs. Isiah Kassidy vs. Penta El Zero Miedo vs. The Blade vs. Griff Garrison vs. Brian Pillman Jr. vs. Max Caster vs. Anthony Bowens vs. QT Marshall vs. Lee Johnson vs. Dustin Rhodes vs. Nick Comoroto vs. TBA (Casino Battle Royale for a Future AEW World Championship Match)
Predictions & Winner: The cards have been dealt and the lineup has been set for the latest installment in the Casino Battle Royale series. I get a kick out of these things since you can always count on an unexpected run-in from the final match participant. A lot of guys from WWE got the “future endeavored” treatment last year, plus Andrade left the company earlier this year and doesn’t have to adhere to the company’s 90-day non-compete clause.
So it’d be pretty sweet if the Lucha Libre star popped up as the 21st entrant, but I don’t think he’ll be the one to run out there during this multi-man contest. My gut’s telling me either Rowan, Chris Hero, or even Curtis Axel will end up being the big surprise entrant for this one. As for who’s getting the big W here, it’s clearly going to be Christian Cage. AEW obviously sees money in him vs. Kenny Omega, so this is the way they’re going to slot “Captain Charisma” into that future classic.
“Hangman” Adam Page vs. Brian Cage (with Taz)
Predictions & Winner: Imagine the utter shock I and plenty of other AEW fans felt when a member of Team Tazz actually got a win for once on Dynamite. I’m a huge fan of the stable, so it always saddened me to watch one of the members from that group show up on Wednesday night just to lose again. But in a rare and shocking moment, Brian Cage showed up a few weeks back and ultimately destroyed Adam Page. That victory was indeed major and felt like the beginning of a new feud that can be used to hold Adam over for a while.
And seeing as how we’re getting a rematch between the two here, my sentiment was ultimately correct. Their first meeting was pretty good, so I’m excited to see what happens when AEW’s resident “Hangman” puts up more of a fight this time around. I get the feeling that Adam will get the win here by the skin of his teeth after a hard-fought war. That victory will bring this series 1-1 and ultimately set up an epic final encounter on a future episode of Dynamite.
Cody Rhodes (with Arn Anderson) vs. Anthony Ogogo (with QT Marshall, Nick Comoroto, and Aaron Solow)
Predictions & Winner: Due to the actions of a now disgruntled QT Marshall, The Nightmare Family is down a few members. QT’s taken three of its young gunners with him and gone on a crusade against Cody Rhodes and company. Cody managed to vanquish QT a few weeks back and is now moving on to the UK boxer with a mean streak, Anthony Ogogo. AEW does a commendable job when it comes to introducing previously unknown talents, which is why I’m looking forward to watching Ogogo go toe to toe with AEW’s biggest babyface.
Ogogo’s been training for a good while now, plus Cody can always be counted upon to produce a good to great match. This one will have an added sense of intensity to it considering the storyline heading into it. My gut’s telling me Ogogo’s getting the big win here to catapult him further up the card and present him as a legit threat. Cody’s pretty big on doing things for the greater good – I think he’ll “do the deed” for Ogogo here and use his superstar cache to make it matter that much more.
Hikaru Shida (c) vs. Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D (with Rebel) (AEW World Women’s Championship)
Predictions & Winner: It took forever and a day to get here, but we’re finally going to get it. Ever since the good doctor embraced her heelish ways and got over huge with the AEW fanbase, it became quite evident that she stood out as someone that should be the next women’s champion. The road to the #1 contenders spot for the AEW World Women’s Championship was bumpy for Britt Baker (as evidenced by her brutal Lights Out match with Thunder Rosa). But Britt has managed to endure all the punishment she took along the way to notch some wins and step up to face Hikaru Shida. The match that most AEW fans have been crying out for is finally going to happen and I’m excited to watch it unfold.
Guys and gals, we all know the deal here – Britt is clearly walking away with the AEW World Women’s Championship. It’s been a long time coming and been built up strongly, so the expected payoff we’ve wanted for months is going to be delivered here. Hikaru has been a strong champion that’s produced some good to great matches against a nice mix of ladies over the past few months. I’m pretty sure she’ll maintain her reputation as an in-ring stalwart here as she goes up against an always game “D.M.D.” Hikaru will put up a good fight, but she’ll fall in defeat to Britt as expected. Once Britt finally claims that title, she isn’t gonna drop it for a while. Side note – we need a new women’s title, AEW! Cause the one you have now is far from pretty.
The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) (c) vs. Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston (AEW World Tag Team Championship)
Predictions & Winners: We all knew this one was coming sooner or later. Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston, who were best friends turned bitter enemies and have now become besties yet again, have reunited to terrorize The Elite. Their newfound tag team role has now led to them warring with The Young Bucks for the AEW World Tag Team Championship. Both teams have showcased their prowess as top duos and presented their differing approaches to bringing the pain. Jon and Eddie embrace a more rough and tumble style, while Matt and Nick Jackson employ those flashy high-flying tactics fans know all too well. This clash of styles will be interesting to watch unfold, that’s for sure.
So it’s worth mentioning that The Young Bucks have held onto those AEW Tag team Championship belts since November of last year. They’ve enjoyed a nice long reign and have definitely delivered in the match quality department. I say all that to say this – Matt & Nick have had a good run, but now it’s time for some new blood to claim the titles. I’m going big with this prediction, folks – Jon and Eddie will pull off an upset victory here and claim the tag team gold on their very first try. There’s big money in Jon and Eddie running around with the belts while cutting those awesome promos of theirs. AEW knows this and so do the Bucks. This means they’re gonna do the right thing here and pass on the tag team crowns.
Sting and Darby Allin vs. Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page
Predictions & Winners: Well would you look at that? Sting’s not getting booked in a cinematic matchup this time around. He’s actually going to compete in the squared circle for the first time in a very long time. Am I scared for his well-being? For sure. But if Sting is willing to get in there and work, then he clearly knows his body will be able to hold up. I like the face-painted combination of the “Stinger” and Darby Allen, as do I enjoy the combination of Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page. So this meeting certainly excites me.
I get the feeling that Scorpio and Ethan will employ some sort of shenanigans to get one over on their foes. Sting will get incapacitated due to some extensive leg work at some point, which will leave Darby to succumb to a combined beating from the two. I think Scorpio will be the one to tap out Darby while Ethan does everything in his power to keep Sting on the outside. I’m placing all my bets on the cocky upstarts getting the win here, which will most likely lead to some singles bouts between all four men in the near future.
Miro (c) vs. Lance Archer (with Jake Roberts) (AEW TNT Championship)
Predictions & Winner: After months of not fulfilling his true potential, Miro finally left his days as a video game-playing bodyguard behind to claim his first AEW title. They say there’s no rest for the wicked, which is true in Miro’s case since he’s already getting booked against someone that can match his scary power.
Lance Archer is coming for the championship that has alluded him since he arrived in the company and I can’t wait to see him lock horns with another angry brute. This match is going to one of those big hoss battles that I love so much, so I hope it gets enough time to become as great as I expect it to be. As for who’s going to win, it’s clear that Miro’s going to retain here. It wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense for Miro to drop the title a mere three weeks after winning it, so it’s pretty clear to me that he’s going over.
The Pinnacle (MJF, Wardlow, Shawn Spears, Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood) (with Tully Blanchard) vs. The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara, Santana and Ortiz) (Stadium Stampede Match; If The Inner Circle Lose, They Must Disband)
Predictions & Winners: The war between AEW’s biggest stables isn’t over just yet. This is a bit puzzling considering the feud-ending matchup they recently engaged in (War G…excuse me, “Blood and Guts” should be the final matchup between two extremely heated parties). The Pinnacle’s victory has pushed The Inner Circle to the edge, which is why they took a water hose to MJF and his crew in an effort to get a proper rematch. MJF granted Chris Jericho and his men their wish, but that also came with a major stipulation – should The Inner Circle fail once again, they’ll be forced to disband. The stakes are that much higher for the second war between The Pinnacle and The Inner Circle. And they’ll have even more ground to cover as they do battle during a Stadium Stampede Match.
This is the second-ever Stadium Stampede bout in AEW history and it once again features The Inner Circle. The first version of that match had a more comedic style that fit the situation considering the other participants (it was The Elite if you’ve forgotten). This feud between The Pinnacle and The Inner Circle is filled with far more hatred between the two, so I’m expecting a more serious tone this time around. This one probably won’t get a ring in the middle of the TIAA Bank Field. Both teams will most likely start in the middle of the field and tear into each other as soon as the ref gives the cue. This one will be a barnburner for sure and most likely get some “color” to really take things over the top. The Inner Circle has been together for a good while now and The Pinnacle needs another major win to keep them strong. I say all that to say this – MJF and the boys are walking away with the big victory here.
Kenny Omega (c) (with Don Callis) vs. Orange Cassidy vs. Pac (Three-Way Match for the AEW World Championship)
Predictions & Winner: The lead-up to this encounter was unexpected, to say the least. Judging by the promo that took place a week before the match to crown the #1 contender for the AEW World Championship, all roads pointed to Orange Cassidy getting that opportunity. But during PAC and Cassidy’s match, an audible had to be called since Cassidy was clearly out of it. Due to Kenny Omega’s heelish actions, Tony Khaan has forced him to deal with both men at the very same time. And you know what? I’m all the way here for it. Omega, PAC, and Cassidy simultaneously going all out for a chance to leave with AEW’s top prize definitely excites me.
Any combination of these men in a one-on-one situation can be awesome – I’ve already enjoyed Omega vs. PAC and PAC vs. Cassidy. Haven’t seen Omega vs. Cassidy yet, but I’m sure that match will be pretty awesome once it finally happens. All three men have it in them to create in-ring magic, so here’s hoping this match gets the allotted time and main event slot it deserves. We all know Omega isn’t losing the AEW World Championship anytime soon, so his win here is pretty much guaranteed. But who will be the one taking the final pinfall? I think PAC will be the one eating a match-ending One-Winged Angel, which will leave Cassidy out of the equation and give him a valid reason for a one-on-one match in the near future.
