If you’ve watched any of the Masters this weekend and have been able to follow the leader Jordan Spieth at all, you’ve probably asked yourself the same question I did:
How can one who looks so young, be so calm and collected in such a high-pressured situation?
With a baby face and the unperturbed demeanor of a 25-year veteran, it’s difficult to tell just how old Spieth is.
He was born on July 27, 1993, making him just 21-years-old. To be exact, as of Sunday’s final round at Augusta National, Spieth is 21 years, 9 months and 259 days.
Spieth has broken a few Masters records this weekend, including the 36- and 54-hole score.
But one record he won’t break is the youngest player to win the prestigious major. That would be Tiger Woods, who was 21 years, 3 months and 14 days when he won by 12 strokes (that’s a record, too) in 1997. Spieth will be 22 in 3 months.
He did tie Woods’ final score, though, at 18-under 270. A bogey on the final hole prevented Spieth from setting the tournament record.
Other players to capture major championships at a young age were the late Seve Ballesteros, who was 23 years and 4 days old when he won the 1980 Masters, and Jack Nicklaus, who was 23 years, 2 months and 17 days when he won the 1963 Masters.
