‘Simpsons’ Creator Terminally Ill, Donates Millions: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

(Getty)

Simpsons creator Sam Simon is terminally ill with cancer and it isn’t looking good. The 58-year-old American director, producer, writer, boxing manager and philanthropist was told he may have little time left. Except, he still has some very big plans. Find out more below…

1. Sam Simon’s Cancer Gives Him 3-6 Months to Live

MNN reports Sam Simon first announced he was diagnosed with colon cancer in March on Leiberman: Live at 5 on Howard 101. Since then, according to sources, he says his cancer has metastasized, spreading to his other organs and other vital parts of his body. Currently, he is said to have about three to six months to live. He is still undergoing chemotherapy — but the prognosis isn’t promising. Back when he was first diagnosed, he said:

…I was feeling bad for a couple years, and I was diagnosing myself from television talk shows, so I was taking antidepressants and I was trying to get my testosterone levels up. But then it turned out my primary cancer was colon cancer that had spread to my liver, kidneys, abdominal connective tissues and my lymph system and maybe my brain. They’re not sure about that.

2. Simon Will Leave 100 Percent of His Fortune to Charities and Shelters

Of the millions of dollars Simon earned throughout The Simpsons show series and many of his other career endeavors, Simon plans to donate 100 percent of it to causes that will benefit the homeless. That includes animals as well as humans. That’s right — the millionaire has already opened up a vegan food bank in Los Angeles and a shelter, as reported by Daily Mail.

3. Simon Turned His Own Mansion Into an Animal Shelter

Simon proved to be a dog lover above all dog lovers when he announced he would be turning his Malibu mansion into dog rescue care center. Daily Mail adds, the “Simon Center” is intended for animals who are about to be put down by local shelters but are instead taken in, fed and eventually trained to be put to good use as companions for people with disabilities. Everything this guy does brings a tear to our eyes. But, apparently Simon is very invested in giving back to the world — especially since he doesn’t know how much longer he’ll be able to stick around in it. According to him, he has more money than he could ever imagine… or need. He told the source:

The truth is, I have more money than I’m interested in spending. Everyone in my family is taken care of. And I enjoy this.

Cheers to that! Below is another image of a couple of cats enjoying their hospitable stay at Simon Center.

4. Simon Started A Foundation Worth $23 Million

According to Salon, Simon founded the Sam Simon Foundation — which was reportedly worth $23 million as of 2011. The foundation’s purpose is to feed homeless people and animals and it has reportedly donated a lot of money to welfare organizations like PETA, Save the Children and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

How’s that for making the world a better place?

5. Simon Recently Won an Award For Compassionate Leadership

RadioIo said Sam received an award for Compassionate Leadership in early June and was “honored” by Mercy For Animals. He deserved it. But, as much as Simon has already done for the world, he didn’t do it because he had to. He did it because he wanted to. This is what he had to say about all his recent good-natured contributions to society:

I get pleasure from it. I love it. I don’t feel like it is an obligation.

We tip our hats to you, Mr. Simon.
