At the press conference Heavy attended on August 12 for The Giver, Jeff Bridges began the event by speaking about his friend and co-star, Robin Williams.
Amongst the journalists assembled at the Essex House in New York City, the actor reminisced about their good times, while acknowledging that he still felt Williams’ spirit — especially being in the very city in which they had filmed a movie together.
The two starred in 1991’s The Fisher King, and Bridges had to smile as he remembered his co-star’s love of life.
He began his tribute by saying:
I just want to acknowledge the fullness of life and the joy and the sadness that was in store for us all. I feel broken today and I was last night of my dear friend’s passing, Robin. He was an amazing friend.
It was especially poignant for Bridges to be in Manhattan as the news of Williams’ death emerged, since they had spent time there together:
What an amazing time we had together here in New York shooting The Fisher King. Just before I came down, I’m looking out my window to Central Park, my favorite part about New York, and I remember in the last scene — me and Robin out there — nude, naked! And Robin was just wild and free and he was just like, ‘Let the wild pony dance!’
