The final Republican debate of 2015 is set for Tuesday night in Las Vegas, with nine candidates set to square off for a fifth time with the Iowa caucus fast approaching.
The most recent Iowa poll results from Bloomberg and the Des Monies Register were announced this past Saturday night to reveal that Republican Presidential candidate Ted Cruz has soared to first place. Cruz has 31% of the votes while Donald Trump has dropped to 10 points below Cruz at 21 percent. And, candidate Ben Carson has plummeted 15 points in the polls as well, according to the Des Moines Register.
A recent Quinnipiac Poll has Trump still leading in Iowa, by one point, according to Real Clear Politics. Cruz led by one point in the newest Fox News poll and by five points in the latest Monmouth poll.
Whether Trump or Cruz is on top, the race has certainly tightened, which should lead to some new attacks in the debate. Trump will want to regain his lead and that may mean firing off against Cruz.
This is also the first Republican debate to take place since the attacks on Paris and San Bernardino, California. Terrorism-related topics are expected to play a major role in the debate.
